Allison's Garden

It's rare that a newly built house has much attention lavished on its garden, so when the Higgins family moved into their two-year-old townhouse, the view from within left a lot to be desired.

Not being a gardener, Allison Higgins turned to the award-winning designer, Kate Gould, who visited in January 2012, and found a typical builders' finish. All the retaining walls were in place, but the ground in the area where the young children played was a quagmire because the drainage was inadequate.

Kate's brief was a contemporary design which would be low maintenance, whilst also creating a lovely outlook from the house, somewhere to entertain in soft light at night, and a safe place for the children to play by day.
