Synopsis
Whereas their former garden had been created in a very piecemeal fashion, this time, she started from scratch, with a clear vision of a lawn-free garden with a central bed full of choice plants, surrounded by a path ‘you could walk around.’ The main garden measures just 7.5m x 14m, with alleys to each side, one shady, the other for growing edibles. Today, a path in the shape of a big ‘6’ leads through the planting, linking a bench at the far end, and patio by the house. When it came to the planting, Lyn chose drought resistant varieties since she only waters the pots. ‘And I don’t have a colour scheme — Mother Nature doesn’t. I like bright colours so, if I like it, I grow it.’
