Synopsis
Then, the second year, they started planting and the influence of the Japanese owner started to show with plants originating from her native Japan, and a garden unfolded that she describes as 'Japanese combined with a cottage garden feel'. Working from a rough plan, the couple laid hosepipe on the lawn to mark the curving borders, edging them with stone unearthed in the garden — thereby slightly raising the borders in which the heavy clay is diluted with the addition of new top soil and compost. At the far end of the plot, a delightful potager is overlooked by a summerhouse clad in summer's roses.
