Nezru Museum Garden
The Nezru museum houses over 7,000 works of Japanese and Asian art. The densley planted garden is designed in the shinzan-yokoko style of stroll garden and contains an exceptional number of stone and metal ornaments placed by the paths.

Nomura - Ke Garden
The Nomura residence in Kanazawa's Nagamachi Samurai District contains a very small garden incorporating many elements of the traditional Japanese stroll gardens. It features a stream, waterfall, granite bridges, stone lanterns and a tiny courtyard.

Kenrokuen Garden
Kenrokuen, located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan, is a strolling style garden constructed during the Edo period by the Maeda clan. It is considered one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan and is noted for several special fetaures.

Ryoani-Ji Temple and Landscape Garden
A Zen buddhist monastery and a UNESCO World Heritage site, this is probably the worlds best known Dry Landscape garden or Karesansui. Lesser known is the surrounding landscaped garden which is at its best in the Autumn.

Kyoto Botanic Garden was founded in 1924 and is the most comprehensive public botanical garden in Japan.

Saiho Ji Temple Garden also known as Kokedera or Moss Temple, Kyoto
One of the oldest surviving gardens in Japan this C12th garden, a Unesco World heritage site, is world renowned for the moss garden surrounding a small pond.

Okochi Sanso Garden, Arashiyama, nr Kyoto
Okochi Sanso was the private villa of the silent film actor Okochi Denjiro (1898-1962). He constructed this strolling garden on the south side of Mount Ogura over a 30 year period. The image set shows the garden at the peak of its autumn colour.

Tenryu -Ji Zen Temple Garden, Kyoto
Designed and laid out in the C14th this is one of the oldest surviving stroll gardens in Japan, combined with an extensive raked gravel garden located in the grounds of an active Zen temple. It is a designated United nations World Heritage Site.

Muin-an Garden, Kyoto
Late C19th 3/4 acre villa garden in urban Kyoto. The aim was to create a naturalistic vision of what one might see in a mountain village using the "borrowed scenery" of the surrounding Higahiyama mountains. Designated as a Scenic Place of Beauty.
