Synopsis
Wildlife is the motivating factor for owners John and Margaret Noakes. The garden is surrounded by good habitat including a moat, an old church yard with Norman tower and ancient yews. Early flowers provide food for bumble bees so the couple have planted winter flowering shrubs including Daphne bholua and witch hazel, Hamamelis pallida as well as strongly shaped evergreens used for year round structure like fastigiate yews. John loves growing alpines and he and Margaret have travelled widely to see them growing in the wild with trips to Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey. A garden proving that gardens can glitter full of jewel like flowers in winter as well as summer. Open for the National Gardens Scheme in February.
