Ron Scamp has been around Daffodils all his life and now grows 14 acres of them in fields near his home in Falmouth, Cornwall. It is no coincidence that so many old daffodils have been found within Cornwall, the conditions there are so perfect for the bulbs to grow. Ron started collecting hirsotric cultivars, he says, because they reminded him of picking flowers on his uncle's cut-flower farm as a child. 'White Lady' was his childhood favourite as he loved its elegant looks.
The term 'heritage' refers to daffodils bred more than 50 years ago, but Ron's interest really lies in those that pre-date the Second World War, and with good reason: this is when daffodils started going astray.
